Project Inspire is a fairly new organization that strives to push all talented minds to pursue their dreams and to never give up. Their slogan: “Dream Impossible, Create Beyond” is what the organization stands for, which is to go beyond what your mind can create.

The message this organization brings forth is what inspires not only the younger crowd, but the older generations as well to pursue their passion without any fears or doubts.

The organization has been getting people involved to carry out their message by getting people who are positive role models and talented in the community.

“Make your seconds, minutes, hours, and days count. Just know that when you’re being unproductive, someone somewhere is giving their all and getting better. You just have to stay on top of your game even if it’s a small move, a move is a move,” said Jeddou Antonio, male ambassador of Project Inspire. Antonio says, “a small move forward in the right direction is better than staying stagnant or taking step back. Even if you have to take a step back, reassess yourself and learn from your mistakes. Just don’t give up.”

Being on an island, especially on Guam, it makes it so hard for people to achieve their dreams simply because they do not want to be judged by their friends and family or they are just content with staying at where they are at.

“Just do it. Living in this particular island, word goes around fairly quick. And despite what others may think, it really shouldn’t matter anymore. We’re finally in a generation where people are doing what they love, dressing how they want to, and not caring at all,” says Charlotte Mercado, female ambassador of Project Inspire.

Both Jeddou Antonio and Charlotte Mercado have been ambassadors since the organization first started. They both have been representing the organization very well when it comes to pursuing their dreams. Mr. Jeddou Antonio is an aspiring rap artist/producer and hopes to become one of the best rappers that puts Guam on the map. “My number one motive is my mom, who basically raised me all by herself. I do not want to let her down and if it means doing whatever it takes to make my artistic pursuits thrive, then I’m down for that……another motive is raising the bar in my little community of Guam. Local music sort of has a bad reputation when it comes to the sound and I just want to be the best audio engineer and mixer possible,” says Antonio. Ms. Charlotte Mercado is an aspiring teacher to hopefully one day influence the younger generations in doing what they love to do.

When asked about her motives with this organization she replies, “The overall goal that was aiming for in the beginning is to inspire. And it doesn’t have to be great, it can just be one mind; that’d be enough for me……if you can overcome what you’re going through, externally and internally, you can remind others that they have it in them as well.”

These ambassadors represent this organization well when it comes to being humble and just being themselves. I was told that their titles as ambassadors are usually just kept as a secret, but I really wanted them to get their messages out to hopefully one day inspire not only inspire younger generations, but the older ones as well to let them know that it is never too late to chase your dreams.

Aside from being positive role models, Project Inspire uses technology and social media as major keys when carrying out their message and displaying the different talents on Guam. The videos that Project Inspire creates are their main plug to display their artwork and hopefully use that artwork to try and inspire the young minds on this island. Their videos are extremely creative and fun, which helps to display the talent on this island and pushes Guam even further in hopes of a better future.

Three time award-winning member of Prominence, Audrey Aguon, knows about the challenges and hardships professional singers face.

Aguon’s band has been around the music scene for about 20 years, and the amount of recognition that the band has received could be inspiring for other local musicians. Aguon attributes the success of her band to the rest members’ mutual love of music and practice they put in for their great chemistry and the years they have been together despite other bands breaking up over periods of time.

“I think the band has been together for so long because of the mutual respect that we have for each other,” Aguon said. “Gigging and rehearsals are never a chore.”

The amount of years that the band has been together has definitely made them a family. Aguon explained, “We all have very different personalities, but when the music starts playing is magical. Chemistry is good both on and off the stage.

We are like a family. We’ve been together long enough to understand each other’s mood swings and quirks.”

As a seasoned musician she says that you always have to work on your craft and study not only your material, but each other’s material to get that chemistry going and understanding the timing of the song. She says that being away from each other for too long can be like not seeing a family member for a while and when they all get together after a certain amount of time from being apart, they all catch up and it becomes a family reunion.

With the amount of hard work that they put into rehearsal and the knowledge that they have gained throughout performing, the band has surpassed their credibility as one of the best cover bands on Guam. Prominence has taken over many events, giving great performances and has gotten the crowd on their feet almost every time.

“Nobody has changed,” Aguon said. “We have managed to remain humble. I wouldn’t call the people ‘fans’, but our friends. I have seen people who have been there with us from the very beginning. It’s the type of appreciation that we get from our friends that keep us grounded.”
