College Student by Day, Makeup Artist by Night

Joannah Torres, 20, is a first-year student of the University of Guam. Torres balances academics with a full-time job.

“It’s hard. It’s extremely hard.” Torres said, as she described her busy schedule. “There’s no time for socializing.”

Torres is majoring in business management. She is interested in human resources.

At first, she wanted to just pursue a career in business, but suddenly had a change of heart.

“I want to be able to help people get jobs, protect a lot of employees and learn a lot from

them.”

The inspiration came from the Harvest House, a non-profit organization that cares for orphans through foster care system.

She wants to be involved with children. Torres participated in the Harvest House as part of her community service when she attended Harvest Christian Academy.

Torres took what she has experienced at the Harvest House and hopes to continue to be involved with them. She wants to start organizing events such as 5k runs for children to participate and have companies such as DFS to help sponsor the events.

She is make-up artist at DFS. Before working at DFS, she would have gigs with her sister and friends such as doing their makeup for special occasions. When DFS hired her, she was placed her into a position where she was able to express her creativity with Bobbi Brown.

Torres hopes to one-day work for MAC Cosmetics.

Torres hopes to graduate in four years.

After graduation, within a year or two, Torres would like to take a break from school and work at DFS.

She wants to travel the world within a year or two and hopefully comes back to DFS and continues to be a makeup artist.
