Get Fit with MixxedFit
By Lauren Lee
What do you get when you combine explosive dance moves and boot camp toning? You get MixxedFit, the latest dance fitness program craze to hit Guam. In just a short couple of months, MixxedFit has grown to be a fun and effective dance program for people of all ages.
Created in 2011 by instructor Lori Chung, MixxedFit is described as a people-inspired dance program that focuses on toning such as squats and body weight exercises just as much as dancing. It is people-inspired because each workout is not influenced by any specific culture, race, etc. and a lot of what went into creating MixxedFit was done through Chung simply listening to the needs and wants of her students.

If Chung’s students wanted mored toning, she added more toning. If Chung’s students wanted more simplicity, she added more simplicity. Chung and every MixxedFit instructor does their absolute best to make sure that each class is catered to the student.

MixxedFit stands out from other dance fitness programs by equally focusing on both dancing and toning. During each class students can feel like they are at a nightclub because of the nonstop dance moves, upbeat music and fun atmosphere.

However students’ bodies will most likely feel like they just attended a boot camp once the class is over. Typically each class is only an hour long, but the moves are so easy to follow yet explosive that students are able to really maximize the amount of calories they can burn. There is also no exercise equipment needed such as dumbbells or weights involved. Students can tone their own bodies and increase their endurance naturally.

The music used in MixxedFit is also what makes it stand out from other dance fitness programs. MixxedFit incorporates songs that you would hear on the radio or at a club, making each routine fresh and fun.

MixxedFit student Anna Lisa Ganeb said, “I have been doing other dance fitness programs like Zumba for five years now, but what makes MixxedFit very appealing to me is the music used.” Ganeb also pointed out how the used in Zumba is mostly Latin, whereas the music used in MixxedFit are all pop/hip hop songs that are in English, which she points is more relevant to her and other students like her.

Alhough MixxedFit is still a relatively new dance fitness program the community has significantly grown since its humble beginnings in 2011. MixxedFit started at one location, a small studio in Renton, WA, known as Dojo 3.

MixxedFit has now expanded to over 100 locations across the United States with nearly 400 licensed instructors to date. In 2013, just two years after Chung created MixxedFit, it became an official company.

There can be a lot of hesitation when trying a new exercise program and it can seem like a scary thing.

If you are still not convinced that MixxedFit is a dance fitness program worth trying, Sandra Haber, a MixxedFit instructor insists that there is no harm in simply trying the MixxedFit program and is confident that you will be back for more.

Rizalina Fernandez, another certified MixxedFit instructor also has some advice to offer for anyone unsure about trying MixxedFit. Fernandez said, “MixxedFit is family.

All worries, problems and stresses disappear for at least an hour during every class. We enjoy each other’s company and have fun while torching tons of calories and taking care of our bodies. It’s always a win win.”
