On Nov. 17., the University of Guam held its 28th Presidential Lecture Series, welcoming special guest Royce Gracie.
Gracie is a well-known mixed martial artist and pioneer of Brazilian Jiujitsu. He is also an Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall-of-Famer.
In attendance at the lecture were students and other jiujitsu practitioners.
Gracie spoke about his life experiences and the evolution and philosophy of Jiujitsu.
Because leverage plays a big part in jiu-jitsu, he explained that jiujitsu is a self defense style.
“It’s self defense, it’s not about beating up people,” said Gracie.
Gracie is expected to fight Ken Shamrock on Feb. 19, 2016,in the next Bellator.
