After a year of renovations, the University of Guam\u2019s Calvo Fieldhouse reopened its Triton\u2019s Fitness Center on Sept. 16.<\/p>\n

Jonas Macapinlac, director of integrated marketing at UOG opened the event as the master of ceremony. A number of supporters, including local dignitaries and federal partners to the university community, were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.<\/p>\n

According to Macapinlac, the announcement about the newly renovated Triton Fitness Center on social media received one of the most viewed, shared, and liked post for UOG.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Acting Governor Ray Tenorio said he is proud to be a Triton and to see the new facility. Tenorio said that the place didn\u2019t look so good and needed help.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the end, making an investment in our University is making an investment on our kids and making an investment in our future,\u201d said Tenorio.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The renovations for the Triton\u2019s Fitness Center were the first of the two phases to revamp the Fieldhouse\u2019s sports and fitness recreational facility. The two phases of the project cost $3 million. The U.S. Department of Interior and the University of Guam\u2019s Capital Improvement Project Funds funded the project.<\/p>\n

Students, alumni and the public can expect major improvements done to the weight room, fitness room, and locker rooms. The entire facility is air-conditioned.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Anne S.A. Leon Guerrero, acting director of athletics and fieldhouse, \u201cAll gym equipment in the fitness center were refurnished and are fully functional.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cStudents can expect for additional new equipment and commercial grade cardio machines later on the school year,\u201d Leon Guerrero said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Triton\u2019s Fitness Center hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays. The hours of operation are subject to change depending on the amount of people using the fitness center.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The fitness center is open to UOG students with a school ID. Membership rates for alumni, employees and the general public are to be announced.<\/p>\n
