The University of Guam\u2019s Psychology\nClub is a student run organization open to university students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club is open to all students ofdifferent majors, but psychology students are highly encouraged to join. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Psychology club\npresident, Vance Paet, the mission of the Psychology is to support the students\nwho fall under the psychology major and programs. The programs include the Isa\nPsychological Center, the I Panengon Suicide Prevention Program and the\nViolence Against Women Prevention Program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past and towards the end of\nthe semester, they partnered with LifeWorks and participated in their candle\nvigil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis vigil was to remember and\nspread awareness of suicide prevention,\u201d Paet said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club also participated in a\nsuicide forum held at the University of Guam in October 2018. The suicide forum\nis sponsored by the I Panengon Suicide Prevention Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cWe are a good support club, and we if we are\nable to offer our services we\u2019d be willing to\u201d Paet said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chartee Brennan, treasurer of the\nPsychology Club says she first joined when she was a sophomore. She says that\nit was a great way for her to get support from other students who are going\nthrough the same issues as her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a freshman and sophomore, it\nwas hard to go up to anyone in the class and ask for help when you don\u2019t have a\nrelationship with them\u201d Brennan said. \u201cJoining the club helped me branch out\nand talk to other people.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brennan said her favorite part\nabout the club is the close work they do with I Panengon. Brennan has a\npersonal connection with suicide an she says she is glad that is able to help\nwith the program about suicide prevention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brennan would like to see the club\nexpand and do more community outreach activities. She believes that it is\nimportant that more people are aware of the mental illness situation here on\nGuam, and that the Psychology Club would be a perfect way for the younger\ngeneration to participate in that movement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kasside Cruz, the club\u2019s public\nrelations officer, adds that she initially heard about the club through her\npeers. She saw this as an opportunity to be more active in the department and\nwanted to form some sense of community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing able to get to know all the\npsych majors, we\u2019re really a cool group of people\u201d Cruz said. \u201cAlso, being a\npart of the numerous outreach activities is fulfilling.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cruz participated in the VAWPP\nmovie night by being on the student panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although this is a psychology club,\nthey do not offer counseling sessions to students. Paet said many students\nthink that they do, but because none of the members or officers are certified\nthe club refers students to the Isa center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently the club has about 25-30\nmembers but is looking to recruit after the senior students graduate <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you are anything like me and\nfeel lost and don\u2019t know anyone join a club, any club and meet new people\u201d\nBrennan said. \u201cIt will help make you college experience better.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any students who are interested in\njoining are able to talk with an officer at the Psychology lounge, which is\nlocated in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building in room 210.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
