Raymond Anderson, Ph.D., is a new associate\u00a0professor of communication at the University of Guam.<\/p>\n

You might\u00a0hear students call him by his nickname \u201cP.Ray”–short for professor Ray. \u00a0Some might\u00a0notice\u00a0that it spells out \u201cpray.\u201d \u00a0So he often says, \u201cpray for me as I pray for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

He usually introduces himself with a question on the first day of class: \u201cWhere do you think I am from?” \u00a0Anderson mentions some of the countries students have mentioned in the past have included Brazil, Middle East, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Jamaica. \u00a0He said it takes students\u00a0a while to get the correct answer, but once they hear him say \u201cJamaica,” his accent allows them to\u00a0figure out\u00a0where he is from.<\/p>\n

Anderson grew up in Saint Andrew, which is a suburb of Kingston.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuam is not as hot as Jamaica, it is usually a couple degrees warmer,” Anderson said. \u00a0“[Jamaica] is humid, but not as humid as Guam.”<\/p>\n

Anderson\u00a0arrived to Guam on Aug. 16 ^{\u00a0<\/sup>with his wife.<\/p>\n}

“So far my experience in Guam is very nice,\u201d Anderson said.<\/p>\n

He currently teaches three classes: Introduction to Mass Communication, Broadcast Production, and Advertising in Mass Media.<\/p>\n

Next semester, he will be teaching three sections of the Introduction to Mass Communication class and one section of the Documentary Process class.<\/p>\n

He plans to introduce new communication classes.<\/p>\n

Anderson said\u00a0he would like to develop\u00a0an “Intro to Film Studies” class. \u00a0In such a class, students would\u00a0watch films, talk about them and explore different ways of critiquing them.<\/p>\n
