Teofila K. Borja, a student at Tiyan\nHigh School, assumed beauty pageants were easy and effortless. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After competing for the title of\nMiss Teen Guam in 2018, she later found participating in pageants turned out a\nlot more challenging than she had expected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Competing against 12 young women to\nbecome the next Miss Teen Guam, she kept one thing in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just wanted to make my family\nproud and not only that but prove to myself, stick with it and do your best,\u201d\nshe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Showing up to five-hour afternoon\nrehearsals after school, following a strict diet, sacrificing time with her\nfriends and searching for companies to sponsor her. Although she felt like\ngiving up at times, her family, specifically her mother, kept her grounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her mother is always supporting her,\ngathering sponsors, constantly driving to and from practice and prepping Borja\nbehind the scenes. She is one of the many things that motivate Borja to perform\nher best in the pageant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Miss Teen Guam 2018 is a\npreliminary competition that requires hard work and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI ended up crying and I don\u2019t mean\nto be emotional, but you can\u2019t help it because of all that you\u2019ve been through.\nIt just feels so nice to have your hard efforts acknowledged and get rewarded,\u201d\nBorja said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borja secured the title\nof Miss Teen 2018 as well as an all-paid opportunity to travel to the\nPhilippines to compete in another pageant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was also offered a\nchance to attend a modeling school in Australia but respectfully declined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borja has plans to move off-island\nin hopes of exploring the various opportunities the world has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She looks forward to graduating with\nher class and setting her adult life in motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has been yearning to get back on\nthe runway and participate in Miss Universe in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With pageant directors always seeking\nher participation, she politely declines their offer for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, she wishes to grow more by building upon her skills\nin the pageant industry and going to college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
