On Mar. 25, 2020, the Wonderkid Project began a\nGoFundMe fundraising campaign that raised $2,530 for COVID-19 relief efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The project is\na collective of  six undergraduate\nuniversity students from Guam and the United States to assist those affected by\nthe spread of COVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Wonderkids Project GoFundMe page, Guam\nexperienced an unprecedented change with the spread of COVID-19 and low-income\nand frontline workers struggle with the new norm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current beneficiaries of the funds include the\nGuam Memorial Hospital, Harvest House Guam, St. Dominic\u2019s Senior Home and\nfamilies seeking assistance from the organization. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eries Moreno, the project coordinator of the Wonderkid\nProject, mentions that the fundraiser allowed the team to help the community\neasily and safely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust being stuck at home [feels] that we are not\nreally able to do much.\u201d said Moreno, \u201cIt\u2019s an easy way for us to help out the\ncommunity while practicing distancing and staying safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wonderkid Team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Created in March 2020, the Wonderkid Team comprises of\nundergraduate students from the University of Guam and Penn Foster College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steven Kho, one of the project\u2019s finance and logistics\nmanagers, said that the team wanted to help as it is a key component to \u201cinafa\u2019maolek\u201d\nin Guam\u2019s community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOverall, we all just wanted to participate because we\nwanted to help. It\u2019s a big thing in our community; assisting one another in\ntimes of need,\u201d said Kho. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For donors, the sense of unity is what drives them to\nsupport the Wonderkid Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ernie Samelo, a student at the University of Guam, said,\n\u201cTimes like these are when we as a community, as an island, need to stick\ntogether and do our part to help resolve the situation.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
