His first few years were not exactly prosperous. He noted that minimum wage was about $4.11 an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cIt was very hard to compete,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            He noted that back then, most people would simply cut their own grass. They did not view a landscaping business as their first resort. However, he saw an increase in demand for his service in the past 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Despite what the business\u2019 name might imply, Dom\u2019s Lawn Maintenance isn\u2019t restricted to cutting grass. Adam, Dominic\u2019s son and employee of the business, elaborated that Dom\u2019s Lawn Maintenance is a jack of all trades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The business offers everything from minor janitorial services, like sorting recyclable materials and water-blasting, to minor construction work, such as concrete forming and fencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cWhatever needs labor, we\u2019ll study it and figure it out.\u201d Adam said. \u201cIf you ask us to wash dishes at a fiesta, we\u2019ll do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The willingness to expand into other forms of labor has earned San Gil\u2019s company unique connections and skillsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            For example, he had the chance to work with representatives of a company located in Switzerland and New Zealand, who were also connected to FIFA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            These representatives were sent to Guam to lay down artificial turf in places such as Anderson Air Force Base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            They hired Dom\u2019s Lawn Maintenance to take part in those operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cWe\u2019re the only company that know how to install artificial turf on Guam,\u201d San Gil said. \u201cA lot of guys say it\u2019s easy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Amber, Dominic\u2019s wife, and a federal employee, is supportive of her husband\u2019s passion. But sometimes she worries about him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cWe\u2019re not getting any younger,\u201d Amber said. \u201cOwning a business is very stressful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            She mentioned that the pandemic put extra burden on San Gil because he was concerned about how his employees were going to get paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            San Gil elaborated that he lost both private and government contracts, but he has since recuperated much of his losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Some lawn maintenance businesses that were smaller than San Gil\u2019s have gone out of business. This has given him opportunities that otherwise would not have been available if it were not for the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            When asked about how he felt about the business, Adam did not hesitate to state his feelings about working for the company. He looks forward to getting feedback from clients after finishing the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            He also feels accomplished after doing janitorial work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cIt\u2019s always nice cleaning up the island,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            When asked the same question, Amber felt no different about the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            She recalls that when she runs into clients in public, she often receives thanks and compliments about her husband\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
