On September 14, 2018, the University of Guam witnessed the inauguration of the 57th Student Government Association executives and senators. Praises and applauds were heard far and wide as Evander DeGuzman, 20, ascends his position in SGA from senator to president.
Simon A. Sanchez High School graduate Evander DeGuzman is a junior at the University of Guam studying Health Science with a concentration in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.
DeGuzman has always had a drive for helping others and assuming the position as SGA’s President was the perfect way for him to give back and implement positive changes for UOG students. This school year, DeGuzman aspires to build a strong relationship with President Krise to get to know him and what his plans are for the University.
As a leader, DeGuzman encourages equality among all positions in SGA and welcomes any new ideas that would make this academic school year one to remember. DeGuzman also encourages students to be open to creativity and to make the most of their college years despite how stressful juggling various classes and workloads can get.
As for future ambitious leaders and visionaries, he advises them to never underestimate their abilities to achieve greatness and have an open mind to new possibilities.
Although taking on the role of a president comes with pressure and responsibility, Evander DeGuzman is optimistic and determined for this academic school year.
