Dior Nguyen, a computer science major at Guam Community College. and a local crafter of polymer clay and resin, garnered nearly 1,000 followers this last September on her Instagram shop.
She uses the Instagram handle @craftydior to promote her products. Her handmade items are inspired by video games and apps with the exception of customized orders.
Nguyen began using Playdough 10 years ago. She stuck with it until she noticed that a YouTuber who also worked with Playdough started using polymer clay. From there, Nguyen found inspiration to use other mediums and establish a business.

Since the pandemic began, she has worked on orders and sanitized her products, but noticed delays in shipping.
Although she has faced challenges during COVID-19, the toughest aspect is generating publicity. Nguyen claims, “[it is] because we are on an island and not a lot of people know about Guam.”
Whenever possible, Nguyen participates in giveaways and collaborates with other local crafters to circulate her work.
Nguyen believes that relocating to the mainland may increase her clientele, but the idea is still daunting.
“I wouldn’t take the opportunity just yet,” she said.
For now, her biggest goal is to earn her degree while also maintaining her cherished shop as a hobby.
