UOG English Meet and Greet

The English Department held a meet and greet on Oct. 26, 2017 at the Lecture Hall.

The event targeted individuals who are declared majors or minors in English, or those interested in the major.

Kiana Brown, president of the English Society, stated that there was a good amount of students that attended the event.

This event involved skits from each major entity to gain active student participation.

The skits involved information about the major department and what is required in order to have that become a major or a minor.

“I want the English student to know that we exist because the club has been dormant for a while,” Brown said. “I want the students to know that there will be a community that they can fall back on if they need to.”

The event offered prizes from Irma’s Creations Coupons, books, bookmarks Jamaican Grill Coupons. The grand prize was an illustrated copy of Games of Thrones.

The English Society also provided food for the students.

Brown said she thought the event was successful.

Brown said she was surprised that there were student that were declared under another department showed up and participated in the event.

During the event, English faculty promoted and sold their books.

It allowed the faculty to showcase their work to the student population and allow promotion of their research.

This was a platform for recruitment for the English Society and a way to get to know the upcoming English majors and minors.

“There were some students that came up to me saying that they wanted to minor or major in English because of this event,” Brown said. “We hope to have future events like this and will be able to make the English societies presence known.”
