The Man Behind the Village of Sinajana

Robert Hoffman has served as the mayor of Sinajana for 8 years. His passion of helping people in his community is the fuel for many projects he has in mind.

One of such projects is the proposed Central Community Arts Hall, which Hoffman said will serve as a theater that will provide artists on Guam with a reliable, no-cost venue to perform. Sports is a big thing on Guam but people are starting to branch out to more than just sports.

“Sports is one thing but we realize that there is a whole generation that don’t play sports,” Hoffman said.

Hoffman knows the residents of Sinajana and realizes that they are into the arts. “People are into Youtube, and Instagram, creating videos,” Hoffman said.

This proposed center will allow residents to express their talents and overall make them strive to achieve something greater.

Hoffman was first elected vice mayor in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008. Hoffman did not stop there. He then ran for mayor of Sinajana and was elected in 2012.

Being first elected as vice mayor for two terms and then being elected as Mayor after those two terms really says something about Hoffman. He has a passion for helping and growing the community of Sinajana to become a better place.

As the son of music teachers, he grew an interest in music at an early age. His childhood led him into wanting to help young adults to achieve their instrumental abilities. Building the Central Community Arts Hall is a way for him to help these young adults aspire to become well known artists and instrumentalists.

Hoffman also likes the idea of going all out on holidays to make his community feel more enthusiastic.

“I tell the guys to start rolling out the flags and decorations.”  Hoffman said.

Every major holiday, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, Hoffman always puts an effort into putting up decorative flags on the street poles.

“It allows the Community to get out more and the kids to be more excited” Hoffman said.

Hoffman is truly making a difference in his community to make it a better and safer place for his people.
