After a year of renovations, the University of Guam’s Calvo Fieldhouse reopened its Triton’s Fitness Center on Sept. 16.

Jonas Macapinlac, director of integrated marketing at UOG opened the event as the master of ceremony. A number of supporters, including local dignitaries and federal partners to the university community, were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

According to Macapinlac, the announcement about the newly renovated Triton Fitness Center on social media received one of the most viewed, shared, and liked post for UOG.

Acting Governor Ray Tenorio said he is proud to be a Triton and to see the new facility. Tenorio said that the place didn’t look so good and needed help.

“In the end, making an investment in our University is making an investment on our kids and making an investment in our future,” said Tenorio.

The renovations for the Triton’s Fitness Center were the first of the two phases to revamp the Fieldhouse’s sports and fitness recreational facility. The two phases of the project cost $3 million. The U.S. Department of Interior and the University of Guam’s Capital Improvement Project Funds funded the project.

Students, alumni and the public can expect major improvements done to the weight room, fitness room, and locker rooms. The entire facility is air-conditioned.

According to Anne S.A. Leon Guerrero, acting director of athletics and fieldhouse, “All gym equipment in the fitness center were refurnished and are fully functional.”

“Students can expect for additional new equipment and commercial grade cardio machines later on the school year,” Leon Guerrero said.

The Triton’s Fitness Center hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays. The hours of operation are subject to change depending on the amount of people using the fitness center.

The fitness center is open to UOG students with a school ID. Membership rates for alumni, employees and the general public are to be announced.
